Exercise Has Nothing To Do With Exercise

What does it mean to exercise? For many people it means going to the gym. For other people it means anything that makes you sweat. Many more think that exercise is a way of moving their bodies in a way that must be inherently painful.

Some even think that exercise means all of these things put together. Exercise to them means going to the gym and then moving their body in a painful way, in order to sweat. Gyms are good they are instructed. Exercise must be painful they think. You must sweat to have any benefits they say.

But these assumptions of exercise are not only inaccurate, they are completely false. Exercise has very little to do with gyms, pain, or sweating. So what does exercise mean? Let’s look at some definitions:
