Is Wii Exercise Real Exercise?

The Wii along with Wii Fit and Balance Board have taken a place in many American Homes. Some people feel that the Wii is great for exercise and fitness and others feel that is worthless. Where do you stand?
As a basic foundation for answering this question I will start with some basic definitions of three words:
- Exercise: Physical activity that is planned, structured, and repetitive for the purpose of conditioning any part of the body.
- Real: Being or occurring in fact or actuality-true and actual.
- Beneficial: Advantageous, producing or promoting a favorable result.
Strictly on the basis of the definitions of the above words Wii exercise is real exercise. It meets the requirement of planned, structured and repetitive activity to condition any part of the body. What does it mean to exercise? For many people it means going to the gym. For other people it means anything that makes you sweat. Many more think that exercise is a way of moving their bodies in a way that must be inherently painful.
Some even think that exercise means all of these things put together. Exercise to them means going to the gym and then moving their body in a painful way, in order to sweat. Gyms are good they are instructed. Exercise must be painful they think. You must sweat to have any benefits they say.
But these assumptions of exercise are not only inaccurate, they are completely false. Exercise has very little to do with gyms, pain, or sweating. So what does exercise mean? Let’s look at some definitions:

Consider first some definitions of terms:
Stride length: Stride Length corresponds to the horizontal distance between the location of a foot at one point in time (usually the first point of contact with the ground)to the same point of the same foot at the next occurrence of the selected position in the running cycle.
Step: A step corresponds to the horizontal distance between the location of a foot at one point in time (usually the first point of contact with the ground) to the same point of the contra-lateral foot at the next occurrence of the selected position in the running cycle. In essence two steps constitute a stride.
Stride Frequency: Stride frequency corresponds to the number of strides that are completed in a specified time period.
