Diets Don't Work
See this excellent womens weight loss story.
People struggle with their weight on a constant basis. Whether people decide to lose weight for health reasons or simply because they want to look better, the process can be frustrating and demoralizing. It is not uncommon for a person to change their eating habits only to yield little result. More often what happens is that someone will lose a bit of weight but over time it creeps back as if nothing had ever happened. It’s not a great mystery why this occurs. Based in science and proven after a lot of trial and error – the fact is that diets simply do not work.
First off, let’s define what is meant by the term “diet” For the purposes of this article, dieting means eating less by cutting down during mealtime, or eliminating certain meals altogether. Dieting can of course mean different things to different people, but the focus of this article is the effects of severely reduced caloric intake.
To put it at the most basic level: the body needs to food to run properly and if you deprive it of food, bad things will happen. Yes, eating less will cause weight loss but it is not the type of loss that is healthy or long-lasting. What happens most times when someone diets is that weight is lost through water loss, or muscle loss – not fat loss. In order to burn fat is it necessary to burn it off through exercise. Simply eating less does not lead to this. Moreover, not eating will cause your body to think that it is starving, thereby leading it to go into survival mode by burning muscle and preserving fat. There is nothing you can think or do that prevents this biological process. You cannot fool your body into losing weight and taking short cuts will inevitably lead to negative consequences. Eating less will also slow your metabolism and make you hungrier. Quite simply, real weight loss takes dedication and exercise.
